{"id":76,"date":"2021-02-03T13:35:12","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T13:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kojichavez.com\/?page_id=76"},"modified":"2025-05-28T13:21:46","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T13:21:46","slug":"courses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kojichavez.com\/?page_id=76","title":{"rendered":"Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I teach three courses at Indiana University. <em>Work in the New Society<\/em> is a mid-level undergraduate course that explores work through a sociological lens, focusing on the barriers that women and people of color face in the workplace. <em>Race and Ethnic Intergroup Relations<\/em> is a writing-intensive upper-level undergraduate course that focuses on race and ethnicity across a number of domains, including nation-state formation, residential segregation, and everyday interactions. <em>Advanced Research Techniques<\/em> is a graduate-level course on research design. It is a blast to teach each of these classes. I&#8217;ve included links to the current syllabi below. This semester (Spring 2022) I&#8217;m teaching the undergraduate work course (SOC-S 315) and the undergraduate race and ethnicity course (SOC-S 410).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also received the Trustees Teaching Award from the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University in 2021 and in 2024. What an honor! Wait until they find out I teach the dreaded Critical Race Theory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good way to understand my teaching philosophy is to read my course evaluations. This semester (Spring 2025), one student wrote, &#8220;the thing I liked least [about this class] was how often he backed into things. And then, if I&#8217;m lucky, they&#8217;ll send me a nice thank you note.
